I am planning to modify existing .atlas.txt files to point to another texture file, so e.g. if current file is cat.png then I would like to use ../inverse_colors/cat.png instead. But after the modification of my cat.atlas.txt I am only getting "Materials not set for atlas asset" error, so am I doing something wrong or are backtracking relative paths unsupported?

In general relative paths are supported, e.g. subdir/cat.png works.

Unfortunately Unity's UnityEditor.TextureImporter.GetAtPath(texturePath); does not support ../ in path names.
