I'm getting the message that states:

"Sorry, the server could not be contacted. Please check your internet connection and any firewall settings that may be blocking spine"

1. I have an internet connection
2. I do not have a firewall

Can you please help?

Thanks.

Sorry you are having trouble. The servers are up, so something must be stopping your connection. First thing to check is your spine.log file:

Windows: <user home folder>\Spine\spine.log
Mac: <user home folder>/Library/Application Support/Spine/spine.log
Linux: <user home folder>/.spine/spine.log

Thanks Nate for replying.

I do not have a folder called "Spine" in my Application Support folder. Next step?

Thanks.

Hmm, that is surprising. For Spine to show the launcher window, it should have written the spine.log file. What happens if you open Finder, press shift+cmd+G (I think that is right, not in front of OS X right now), then enter ~/Library/Application Support/Spine? If that doesn't work you can try running Console. When you run Spine the logging should show up in Console, though possibly mixed with other logging.

Please post the whole Spine log once you find it (not just the error). The hope is it sheds some light on exactly why Spine is unable to reach the server. However, if the log just says it can't connect, we'll need to figure out why. OS X has a firewall, though users haven't had problems with it blocking Spine in the past. There are multiple Spine servers in different geographical areas, so it is unlikely to be a problem with your ISP being unable to route traffic to a server.

Another thing to check is that you are running the latest launcher. To update the launcher you'll need to download it again from your Spine license page and reinstall.

OSX 10.13 doesn't have the "Anywhere" option in Security Preferences. I have a pro license, and have 3.6.53 currently installed. How would I go about getting the latest update?

Thanks for the help!

Sorry for the trouble. We had to force an update of the Spine Launcher due to an expiring certificate. Please head over to your license page and download and reinstall Spine. That should fix your issue.

You need to download Spine again. Reinstalling using an installer you downloaded previously won't work. If you are still having trouble, please post your spine.log file:

I'm afraid I don't know what could be causing Spine to not be able to connect to the servers. :( Your launcher is up to date, so that isn't the problem. The servers are definitely up, so it's almost certainly either a configuration problem on your computer or with your networking. Sometimes an ISP will provide bad or broken routing through the internet between you and the server. Because of that we have two servers (on different continents) and the launcher tries both. It would be pretty unlikely that routing to both was broken. The error indicates that it most likely connected, but then timed out waiting for a response. That is very odd, but though sometimes error messages can be misleading.

Can you try running Spine when connected to a different ISP? For example, run a hotspot on your cell phone and connect through that.

Can you try running Spine on a different computer when connected to the same ISP? The idea is to try to narrow down whether it is your computer configuration or your network configuration.

Sure Nate, Will try that and get back to you,

Anyway, will get back to you.

Thanks.

Hey Nate,

Your right! It works when the hotspot is on, but won't when the wifi network.

I don't understand how to solve this issue, can you please suggest a solution for this.

Thanks.

Nate

That's a good clue! Spine communicates on port 443 (HTTPS) to api.esotericsoftware.com. Something in your WIFI/router or maybe your ISP or possibly in your computer's network configuration that is specific to your WIFI seems to be blocking that communication. I'm not aware of any obvious settings that would cause this problem. I'm afraid it's difficult for me to debug those things further, since they are pretty specific to your setup.

Another clue is that you said it was working yesterday but not today. Something somewhere had to have changed!

Spine has it's own, private Java that it uses. Skeleton Viewer uses your system Java installation and doesn't do any network communication, it really shouldn't affect Spine at all.

Nate

You said you connected to your cell hotspot and then Spine would run? That should be all you need, for now at least -- Spine only needs to be online to download an update file, after that it can run offline.

As for actually fixing the problem, we have to somehow figure out what it is about your network configuration that is blocking Spine, but I'm afraid I don't have any ideas. Maybe you can login to your router and find some logs or some clue as to what is going on.
