"Could not automatically set the atlasasset"

First off, Spine is the best. It's pretty much my gold standard for 2D video game animation and I'm so glad you guys are still working on it. It gets better and better constantly.

But my brain is fried. I went through the previous posts about this topic (http://esotericsoftware.com/forum/Could-not-automatically-set-the-AtlasAsset-9481 and http://esotericsoftware.com/forum/I-keep-getting-Could-not-automatically-set-the-AtlasAsset-9640 and even http://esotericsoftware.com/forum/Trouble-importing-to-Unity-5017).

I'm running the texture packer separately since I want each skin in it's own atlas (I'm using Spine 3.6.52 Pro).

The filenames/extensions seem fine as best as I can tell. The png names inside the skin.atlas.txt file all match the actual atlas pngs.

My atlas extension is atlas.txt (I'm exporting for Unity 2017.2.0f3).

I unchecked 'flatten paths' (It caused an error when I tried it).

I have 5 skins each with their own folder.

No skin uses all attachments (I have export warnings: "image for slot... not found...").

I'm at a loss. Thanks for your time!

Note that as the message says, if it couldn't set the AtlasAsset automatically, you can still wire up the atlas.txt file and atlas asset manually yourself and it will work fine.

If you set it manually and there is a problem, the SkeletonData Asset inspector should show the error such as what regions are missing from the atlas (one reason why the error appears) and we can track down the problem.

I also encountered the same problem and solved it.

It turned out that there must be a empty layer in your spine project file，find out and delete it

Problem solved: atlas file should be of type txt, not of type atlas. E. g. instead of cat.atlas it must be cat.atlas.txt.

Are you perhaps using Unity 2020.1? Unfortunately this is a newly introduced issue with Unity 2020, which is yet to be fixed. For that reason the officially latest supported Unity version is listed as 2019.4.

You can subscribe to the issue ticket to receive notifications upon any updates:

The above issue has just been fixed. This also fixes import problems when using Import Pipeline V2 in Unity 2019.X.

Do I need to adjust export settings?

You did not show a screenshot of your Pack Settings, nor of your assets. Are you sure that you exported the atlas with extension .atlas.txt and not .atlas?
