  • Feature request: Mesh edit mode auto-create edge connections

Hi there,

When meshing images, I usually find myself needing to make a lot of edge connections between vertices. Something like this...:

I first create all of those vertices by clicking in their desired positions, then I click-drag the mouse from vertex to vertex, releasing the mouse button every time a reach the second vertex.

My suggestion to speed up this process is to have a key modifier (like Shift or Ctrl) that automates the process of releasing and pressing again the mouse button when a vertex is hovered, so the final behavior is that I can travel along those vertices automatically creating edge connections between them.

I know this could seem a little whiny on my part, but you don't know how ever grateful I would be to have this feature for future meshing. I calculate about a third of time being saved by this alone, you know... 😉

We're planning on improving the mesh tools in the future. Lofting, or bridging vertices as well as a bevel for edges would definitely be useful tools.
I'm afraid I can't give you an ETA on this yet though.

No problem at all. I was just giving my two cents in case this wasn't planned for the future.

Oh, and that bevel thing is also great indeed! Adjusting rows of vertices along a slightly modified curve at a frame is something I tend to do a lot as well. 🙂


Sorry about bumping the thread, but I've noticed some kind of change in the mesh editing tools in the last beta, and I was wondering if there was some advance in this (?).

I'm rigging a big character now and I'm building a nice carpian tunnel syndrome here... :p

If only there was a way to create vertices and connect them to the last, maybe by pressing a key like Alt and clicking on the desired locations... 😉

In mesh edit mode, with the Create tool, if you click and drag a vertex, it'll create an edge between that vertex and a new vertex. Does that help?

It sounds more like a bevel function to not have to do all those edges manually.

That's how I do things now, but it involves continually pressing and releasing my index finger, so it's kind of bad for my hand tendons.

I think it would be better if you could create and also connect vertices by pressing a key while moving the cursor, preferably without pressing buttons on the mouse.

That also would be kind of nice for creating smooth curved edges, yes...
