Hey I'm fairly new to Spine and my images just come up as an orange box saying the image is missing. I can locate the folder with the images in and see a preview of them from the list that Spine generates. I have tried a few obvious things like trying other images. My backgrounds work as well as the sample images (which are larger than my own images) which leads me to believe it's an issue with size. I have checked the documentation but there seems to be no specifications. All my images are .PNG and they are fairly small. Is there something I am missing?
Issues importing images

Spine may have trouble reading some images, such as those saved by Photoshop which contain a lot of extra information. No idea what Photoshop does to mangle images. If you use "Save for web" Photoshop won't do this. You could also run something like pngcrush on your images, which will clean them up (if this is indeed the issue).
Thanks for the help! I am truly stumped.
I am using paint.net to create my images. I have used a plugin to optimise my images for web use but I still get the same result. I have noticed (after trying nearly every .png image I have in Spine) that nothing seems to make a difference. I have tried images with and without a transparent background, big and small canvas sizes. The size of the file doesn't seem too important either.
Although some work, most of my recent images don't. I think it is related to paint.net as my older images were created with a variety of odd little image editors built in to game dev kits. Saying that my backgrounds were all created in paint.net and work fine.
Can you post one of the problematic images? Click Quick Reply, Full Mode, then the post attachment tab under the submit button.
Yeah no problem
Thanks. Spine had a bug because of the period in the file name. It will be fixed in the next version.
Hahaha no way, well at least it's a known bug and I can still use my images (after renaming them of course). Thank you for the prompt support, it's much appreciated!
P.s. renamed them now and they all work fine
