  • Error Packing images

Heyyy I hope everyone is having a lovely week.
Can someone help me, please? Last week I had no issues exporting as JSON, and I sat down today and got errors for the same files that were fine last week.
I have to export animations as 4.1 and I'm getting this message: Unable to process polygon for image

But if I open them with the 4.1 version they are perfectly fine.
(The issue is I saved some of them already as 4.2, so I can't open them with the 4.1 version, I don't know how to export them because I keep getting that error message.)

Please help.

It sounds like you are encountering issues with the texture packing process when exporting your animations as JSON in Spine 4.1. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Check Export Settings: Ensure that your export settings are consistent and correct. Sometimes, discrepancies in settings can cause errors. You can refer to the Texture Packing - Spine User Guide: Settings for more details.

    2. Polygonal Packing: If you are using polygonal packing, try switching to rectangular packing. Polygonal packing can sometimes cause issues with complex meshes. You can change this setting in the texture packer settings.

    3. Image Size and Complexity: Ensure that your images are not too large or complex. Large images or images with complex meshes can sometimes cause packing errors. Try reducing the size or complexity of your images.

    4. Update Spine Version: If you are using an older version of Spine, consider updating to the latest version. Sometimes, bugs are fixed in newer versions. If you are already using the latest version, try reverting to a previous version that worked for you.

    5. Debugging: Enable the Debug option in the texture packer settings to see if there are any overlapping images or other issues that might be causing the error. This will draw magenta borders around the images, which can help identify the problem.

    6. Send Project Files: If the issue persists, consider sending your project files to the Spine support team. They can help reproduce the problem and provide a solution. You can email your project files to [contact@esotericsoftware.com](mailto:contact@esotericsoftware.com).

Here is a summary of the steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

    • Check and ensure your export settings are correct.
    • Switch from polygonal packing to rectangular packing.
    • Reduce the size or complexity of your images.
    • Update to the latest version of Spine or revert to a previous version that worked.
    • Enable the Debug option to identify overlapping images or other issues.
    • Send your project files to the Spine support team for further assistance.

I hope this helps resolve your issue!

If the issue is the polygon, could you maybe export a json inclusing nonessential data for 4.1 without clean up and, most importantly, unchecking packing so it does not attempt to pack the images?

Without seeing the files it's always a bit difficult to determine the exact cause, but please follow up if you still get problems after trying the suggested solutions.

We've discovered the issue this morning and already opened an issue on github to let you know about the progress of its fix. Sorry for the trouble, we'll work on that as soon as possible!

Davide Thank you very very much!

Erika You are right, sorry I forgot to attach more details. For some of them, it solved the problem when I changed the settings from polygonal to rectangular, but with some, it's just meh
Thank you so much for your help!

Chiming in to say I'm having the same problem - thank you for looking into it!

To add some additional details (I'm currently working in version 4.2.34 on a silicon mac with 4.2 files) - this issue is happening with everything I'm attempting to export, including things that have previously exported and texture packed without issue. The last time I've exported without this issue was July 26th (though I didn't try again until Yesterday, Aug 4th).

I've even gone back and tried previous files that I haven't touched in months and tried to export those and had the same 'Unable to process polygons' error.

Sorry for the confusion. We have just released Spine 4.2.35 which fixes the polygon packing issue. Thanks for reporting this issue!
