  • Stable version of 4.2

I am currently working alone on animation and game development using Spine for Unity. First, I'd like to express my gratitude to EsotericSoftware for creating Spine. The progress since version 4.0, starting with the integration of graphs and dope sheets, has been remarkable, and now it even includes its own physics processing, which is extremely convenient for a solo developer like myself. Although I used Unity's physics processing before, the current 4.2 beta version allows for direct simulation in Spine and subsequent import, which is very helpful.

However, as it is still a beta version, I've noticed a few issues. Given the nature of my project, which heavily relies on physics features, I'm using the most stable beta version of 4.2 (in my test), as it's still in beta. I would like to use the official version of Spine for my next project.

Could I inquire about the approximate release date of a stable official build?

PaulKim Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us! We are very happy that you like the features added in the newer versions.

Unfortunately, we cannot tell you exactly when 4.2-beta will be stable, but we have already finished adding major features and are in the bug-fixing phase. Although 4.2-beta already has few major bugs such as crashes, minor bugs may still remain.

Please note that the stable release will not be available until all official runtimes support the skeleton data exported from Spine 4.2. The spine-unity runtime is one of the official runtimes that is more responsive to new features, so it may be practically stable sooner than the actual 4.2 stable release.

Misaki Thank you for your reply. I appreciate the update on the general progress of the work.
Considering the release cycle of Spine and the situation you've shared, I can infer that the official version is not far off.
Additionally, I have been using Clip Studio Paint for my work, so I had to go through a cumbersome process to import into Spine using Photoshop.
However, with your company's addition of the direct PSD import feature, I can finally get rid of Photoshop.
      Thank you!
