When exporting binary with non-essential data checked, the first bone name after root bone won't be recognized by SkeletonBinary. I looked into the binary and there seems to be two extra bytes between the root bone's non-essential color and the next bone name. When non-essential data is checked off, I don't encounter the null bone name after the root bone.
