  • Need clarification on json/atlas export version.

Hello.
I can see here : https://en.esotericsoftware.com/spine-export
that there seems to be a button in the ui for "version".

I want to make sure, as I'm interested in purchasing the essential version, but I have a specific requirement that I need to confirm before making a decision.

I intend to use Spine2D for creating assets for a game mod project. It's crucial that I export files to version 3.6. This is non-negotiable, for it's a requirements of my game mod. I'm not the creator of the game I'm trying to make content for. I've heard great things about Spine2D, but if it doesn't support version 3.6 exports for atlas and JSON files, I might have to reconsider.

It would help if someone go into detail or even provide some example of a very very simple json format that is produced when exporting a 3.6 version json/atlas file in the program so I can compare compatibility.

Thanks 🙂

You don't want to export for an older version using the Version select box unless you plan to import the data back into the Spine editor.

The right way to make animations for a 3.6 runtime is to run a 3.6 version of the Spine editor. That means you don't get the newer features in more recent Spine versions, but that's because the 3.6 runtimes don't have those features.

The Spine launcher allows you to choose any previous version of Spine. You can see all versions here:
