Part of my daily workflow is making meshes to animate characters fro games, and I've noticed that while the Trace tool gets pretty close to what I need, I often have to make a lot of adjustments, which in itself is fine and to be expected but can be time-consuming and I'm wondering if something like this could be done to stream line the process:
after using trace if I add vertices to areas I feel need it, instead of having to modify them one by one to be in a position close to the image data, if there could be some sub-tool or button press to auto-adjust existing geometry to image data (see attached image) and perhaps try to make vertices evenly spaced it would be so helpful. It's a small thing, but done so often it adds up.

I like the idea a lot! We could 1) allow clicking edges to add a vertex while the mesh trace dialog is open, and 2) add a button to allow you to apply only the "refinement" part of the mesh tracing:

Tracing currently doesn't have the concept of moving the vertices closer, instead the refinement step moves the vertices to make the mesh have a smaller area. If this is what we do when the Refine button is clicked, it may not always move the vertices quite like you want. We've added it in 4.1.10-beta, maybe you can give it a try when it's released?
