Hi,
I've recently used version 3.7.x.x, and it's soo much easier to do lip sync now that Spine supports audio files. All animations done in spine, except for the ripples and the volcano's smoke.

Nice experiment! did you use/consider using Rhubarb to help out with the lip syncing?
Mouth animation using Rhubarb Lip Sync
Did you copy/paste frames based on shape?
Also did you draw these two characters? The scene is so cute!

I've checked the Rhubarb, but it seems that it only works with separate images based on mouth shapes instead of keyframes associated with the mouth shapes.
I choose to do it manually, since some of the mouth (or beak) shape needs some inbetweens, otherwise the keyframe would jump to far, eg, from AA mouth shape to MM mouth shape.
Currently I'm figuring out the best rig for the beak.
And yes, I did the character & bg myself, in adobe illustrator.
