Hi all,
TL;DR I'd like to use Spine and its Unity runtime with Unity 4. Possible?
Info:
I'm a programmer, and the artist on my project and I are planning on using Spine in our game project. The game has been in development for a couple years at this point and we're still on Unity 4. For compatibility and financial reasons, I'm not interested in upgrading to Unity 5 for this project, so we'd like to use Spine with Unity 4 if possible.
The artist has Spine Pro v 3.3.0.7, and I'm using Unity 4.6.9f1, with the Spine Unity Runtime downloaded with a timestamp of "UTC - 2016 August 1".
Upon importing the Unity Spine runtime into a new project, I get 40+ errors ( mostly related to the GUILayout and EditorGUILayout syntax, but upon fixing a dozen or so of these myself, about 100 more errors started unfurling. So I thought I'd ask for some advice before I decide on what to do.
- Is there a relatively recent / stable version of the Spine Unity Runtime that supports Unity 4? If so, where do I get it?
- If not, which version does support Unity 4, and what version of Spine will my artist need to use along with it?
Otherwise, it would be helpful if a dev on the Unity Runtime could advise me on how difficult it might be for me to retroactively make the Spine Unity Runtime compatible with Unity 4.
Thanks for any help that can be offered. We're excited to get Spine running in the game. My artist reports that she loves working with Spine and I have to say the artwork she's producing with it is pretty badass:
